Owen Duguid is a member of the Real Estate practice group at O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP. Having articled at OMH and experienced first-hand OMH’s collegial atmosphere, he knew it was the kind of professional environment he wanted to be part of. Owen relished the opportunity to join the Real Estate practice group following his call to the Bar.
Owen earned a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo, specializing in Geomatics and Urban Settlement Systems. Having been exposed to both planning and environmental law curriculum while at Waterloo, Owen chose to pursue his law degree at Queen’s University. His educational interests and experience have lent themselves to the development of his Real Estate practice.
Owen recognizes that dealings with land are often multi-faceted and tend to involve a number of different parties and competing interests. Although his clients range from municipalities to land developers and to individuals buying their first home, he employs the same communicative and practical approach across his practice. His creativity and negotiating skills are employed when necessary, but his responsiveness to his clients is a constant.
Having grown up in the Halton Region, Owen was very familiar with the excellent reputation of OMH and its intense community involvement. His own charitable work had already begun at Queen's where he was involved in Pro Bono Students Canada working on a project to benefit the local branch of Habitat for Humanity.
Owen admits that he has a competitive side that not only benefits his career, but his personal life. Time away from the office is taken up by a variety of sports including cycling, golf, volleyball and inner tube water polo.
He also enjoys reading non-fiction and is learning to cook.
